ACTIONr Training Visit # 03 (July 2024) -Lyon (France) – July 08 – July 19, 2024)
Organizers: École Centrale de Lyon, Prof. G. Nicol, Dr. C. Hazard
The third training mission of ACTIONr took place at École Centrale de Lyon (Lyon, France), focusing on the microbial ecology of the nitrogen cycle and its impact on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. PhD student Paraskevi Amanatidou and Dr. Evangelia Papadopoulou from the University of Thessaly participated in this comprehensive program, joined by Valia Moutzoureli, an ACTIONr PhD student at UTH, who is doing her secondment at ECL.
Over two weeks, they engaged in personalized training sessions covering stable isotope probing (SIP) techniques for microbial ecology and GHG analysis. Practical activities included setting up microcosms, analyzing SIP data, and mastering ultra-centrifuge operations. Additionally, they followed a specialized experiment on SIP and GHG emissions, gaining expertise in experimental setup and monitoring.
This mission allowed UTH staff to collaborate with the Environmental Microbial Genomics Group at Laboratoire Ampère, benefiting from a premier academic environment and advanced research methodologies.
