Eleftheria Bachtsevani is a postdoctoral researcher in microbial ecology and environmental toxicology at the École Centrale de Lyon. Her research focuses on the efficiency and toxicity of agrochemicals on microbial groups involved in the nitrification process. During her PhD, she studied the impact of pesticides on nitrifiers and developed innovative single species tests using nitrifiers as bioindicators. Using advanced techniques such as transcriptomics and proteomics, she studied the mechanisms by which pesticides affect ammonia-oxidising microorganisms, providing insight into their toxicity at the molecular level. As part of the ACTIONr project, she will assess the impact of nitrification inhibitors (NIs) on the activity and community composition of soil nitrifiers and their contribution to greenhouse gas emissions.
