🌟 Featuring Barbara Bayer

Barbara Bayer is a Group Leader at the Department of Microbiology and Ecosystem Science, University of Vienna, where her research focuses on the interactions between aquatic microorganisms and their environment, particularly in understanding the environmental regulation of microbial processes controlling carbon and nitrogen cycling in water bodies.

Employing a diverse array of isotope approaches, cultivation techniques, and multi-omics methodologies, Barbara and her team aim to quantify biogeochemical processes and discover new microorganisms and metabolic pathways. Notably, she has been awarded an ERC Starting Grant to investigate microbial methane cycling in aquatic ecosystems, along with an Austrian Science Fund (FWF) START Award, underscoring her dedication to advancing microbial ecology research.
