Sotirios Vasileiadis
Assistant Prof.
University of Thessaly
Dr Sotirios Vasileiadis obtained his PhD degree on the field of Soil Microbial Ecology at Universita Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (UCattSC), Sede di Piacenza, Italy (with Prof. Marco Trevisan). In his PhD and first postDoc at UniCatt he worked with metals and pesticides as potential stressors of the soil microbial communities and developed methods for the study of gene diversity with multiplex high throughput sequencing in microbial metabarcoding studies. Following, he performed a postdoc at the University of South Australia (Mawson Lakes, Adelaide) working mainly on soil microbial metal stress, and on the microbial antibiotic resistance in Urban/hospital wastewater and water with culture and culture independent approaches. He then joined the group of Prof. Dimitrios Karpouzas at the Laboratory of Plant and Environmental Biotechnology (Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, University of Thessaly) working as a Marie Curie on multiomic analyses of biocatalysis in soil enriched microbial consortia and became an assistant professor at the department with his research currently being supported by national funding, while he collaborates in several national and European funding schemes. His main research interest is to dissect the ecology of soil microbial communities responding to external perturbations using advanced omic and bioinformatics tools. He has (co)authored 57 articles in peer-reviewed journals, two book chapters and a white paper.
