Laurent Philippot is director of research at the INRAE and vice head of the Agroecology department, Dijon, France. His area of research is soil microbial ecology and one of his major research lines focuses on nitrogen-cycling microbial communities, especially those involved in the production and in the reduction of the greenhouse gas N2O. His work using nitrogen-cycling microorganisms as a model functional community aims at limiting nitrogen losses and greenhouse gas emissions in agriculture due to microbial activity.
